Busy Poker Schedule

As I said in my previous post, I was going to play in a number of Freeroll MTTs over the last few days. As it turned out, I dropped one of the Freerolls and played in a money MTT instead. I played in:

Wil Wheaton Euro Friendly ($10+1 MTT) - Came around 18 out of 39.
Pokerplayer / SpinPalace (Freeroll STT tourney) - Went out 3rd on first table.
Titan 100k Satellite (Freeroll MTT) - Did not bother playing in the end.
Pokerplayer Grand Prix Rnd 1 (Freeroll MTT) - Came around 23 out of 300.

Not a terribly good series of results, although admittedly Wil's tourney is more about the fun of playing than the winning. My result in the SpinPalace tourney was disappointing - I had been doing really well but I had a moment of tilt and went out one place from the semi-final.
I did not play on Titan in the end because I really could not be bothered to sit down with 1000s of other people just to win a ticket into another tournament - I had had enough poker by this point. As it turned out, this was probably a very good idea, as with the weekend away from Poker, I came into the Pokerplayer Grand Prix in just the right frame of mind. Okay the cards hit at just the right point but it felt really good playing in that tournament and if I had not had a terrible run of cards at the end, I am convinced I would have made the final table. Still $5 and two extra league points are not to be dismissed and I look forward to the other nine rounds of this competition.

Quiet Lately

I have not posted much on here recently. I have been pretty busy at work and a stomach bug rampaged through the family in the last week.
I was going to play in the England World Cup of Poker qualifiers on Pokerstars over Easter weekend but a couple of things got in the way. The first was dinner at the in-laws on Easter Sunday, which unfortunately I ended up not getting any of anyway (and the Mother-in-Laws roast dinners are great, so this was quite a shame) when the stomach bug hit just after arriving. The second thing was indeed the bug itself, as I did not then feel well enough to concentrate on (hopefully) multiple heads-up matches in the Easter Monday qualifier.
I am due to play in a large number of Freeroll tourneys in the next month, so hopefully posting frequencies will start to increase again soon.

Baron of Poker?

I played my first Tournament on VC Poker last night. It was a special freeroll organised between Maxim Magazine and VC Poker called the King of Poker Freeroll. Prizes were being paid out up to 9th and the winner would go to a special live tournament on Wednesday in London. I actually found out about the tournament in PokerPlayer magazine.
Well I expected quite a large field considering the reasonably good prizes for a freeroll and the largish sponsors, so I was quite surprised to find only 51 people registered when I logged in. The tournament itself turned out to be a very tightly played affair, with obviously experienced players but also a unexpectedly large number of 'sitter-outers'. I played pretty well but I got a good string of hands that died on the flop and with very fast rising blinds I was pretty much blinded out in the late teens. However, just at that moment I got two hands of AK in a row which managed to get me enough chips to hang on until the final table (and the money!).
In 9th place with only 2xBB in chips and in the BB, one person raised and everyone folded round to me. I had a pair of 6s and I had to go for it, so I went all-in and was called by a AJu. Unfortunately the J came out on the flop with no sign of any 6 on the turn or the river. Still $25 for a freeroll entry is certainly not bad - especially seeing I was not entirely feeling brilliant (bit of a bug). Overall I was very happy with the result - I just hope it indicates an end to my bad string of results.
